SKYPELAB Rio >< Reutlingen 2017
Workshop SKYPELAB Rio >< Reutlingen 2017
Skypelab is an art and research widely recognized project conceived
in 2012 by Henning Eichinger (Germany) and Maggie McCormick (Australia). The project is part of the ‘Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for
University Students – BWS plus’, a program of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung
for international exchange.
In its third round, Skypelab explores the role of drawing and portraiture in identity perception within the public space of Skype sessions, embracing cultures apart by oceans and delineating transcontinental networks of students of art and researchers.
In its third round, Skypelab explores the role of drawing and portraiture in identity perception within the public space of Skype sessions, embracing cultures apart by oceans and delineating transcontinental networks of students of art and researchers.
In the biennium 2016-2017 the project established a partnership between the University of Reutlingen (Henning Eichinger) and the Federal
University of Rio de Janeiro (Maira Fróes), connecting Rio and Reutlingen through students
and researchers, many of them interested in exploring the association of artistic
and scientific processes.
The composition of the brazilian team represents this delicate
association, involving researchers of the joint Laboratories of Advanced Methods
and Epistemology (LAMAE) at the Institute Tercio Pacitti of Computational
Applications and Research, the Nucleus of Art and New Organisms (NANO) at the
School of Fine Arts, and the Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering
(LAMCE) at the Technology Center, all carrying
their respective graduate programs represented by Program of History of Sciences
and Technics and Epistemology (HCTE), Program of Visual Arts (PPGAV) and the
Coordination of Engineering Graduate Programs (COPPE), at Federal University of
Rio de Janeiro.
Drawings raised from brazilians-germans pairings, as well as the telematic contact per se, unfolded into works of contemporary
art, as expected. In addition, biophysical records, obtained from brazilian participants by means of
biological sensors, have enlarged the dimensions of body presence,
an aspect also explored at the perspective of science.
The many results raised by our transcontinental team will be presented in the opportunity of our
workshop, during which artists and non-artists from both sides will open their
processes and creative propositions.
We open to public visitation and participation on June 6
(Tuesday), as detailed below. The entrance to public is free, no applications
are required.
